Morocco is one of the most popular destinations amongst clients of Southall Travel. Whilst each part of the country has its own unique attractions, Agadir tends to draw in the most visitors. Located in the southwest, this city was first established in the mid-16th century. Modern Agadir is home to a wealth of historical and cultural sites, as well as some spectacular beaches, which makes it perfect for those who want a holiday which allows for just as much sightseeing as it does sunbathing. The city’s proximity to the Souss River estuary and the Atlas Mountains, along with its abundance of seafood restaurants, charming cafes and its vibrant nightlife all draw in millions of tourists every year.
The best beaches in the country are said to lie around this city; the Agadir-Essaouira coastline is home to dozens of pristine, golden sanded areas, including Imiouadar, Aitswal, Aghroud, Bouyirdn, Imouran, Taghazout and Tamaounza, to name just a few. If you tire of bathing and relaxing on the beaches here, there’re plenty of other attractions to choose from. Agadir is also home to a number of very grand educational establishments, which are certainly worth a visit; these include the colleges of Lycee Zerktouni d’Agadir and Lycee Francais, as well as the University of Agadir.
The museums of Agadir are a must-see for all history buffs; they include the Berber Arts Musem, the Musee Bert Flint, La Casbah, La Medina Musee d’Agadir and the Municipal, each of which contains exhibits which tell the story of the city’s fascinating past. The Casbah in particular is favoured by many Southall Travel customers, as not only does it offer insight into Agadir’s history, but it also offers some amazing panoramic views of the new town, port and bay, as it lies on a hilltop about seven kilometres outside of the city– a sight which is especially lovely as the sun sets. The building was constructed in 1540 by the Sultan Mohammad, when Agadir was still serving as a trading post.
Not far from the Musee du Patrimoine Amazigh, you’ll find the Vallee des Oiseaux – many customers of Southall Travel rate this as the perfect spot for families visiting Agadir. Home to a playground, a small zoo and an aviary, this is the ideal place to while away a few hours on a sunny afternoon. It’s well shaded by the surrounding trees too, and so serves as a good escape from the heat of the sun.
